When planning your photo shoot in Punta Cana, you should consider weather dependency. Usually people try to catch a tan and do not set a shooting date for the first week of rest. The Dominican Republic is really famous for a large number of sunny days and the lack of a rainy season. It’s true, but it also rains here. It happens that cloudy weather persists for several days. Photo shoots in the Dominican Republic are most often postponed due to the weather. For the color of the sea to be beautiful, we need the sun.

Based on many years of experience as a photographer in Punta Cana, let me make a recommendation: always have in stock at least three to four days before the end of the holiday. In case of bad weather, we can reschedule the shoot to a later date.

 

Prepare your skin for a photoshoot in Punta Сana

Also keep in mind that burnt red skin is difficult to correct correctly, for this reason, DO NOT sunbathe two days before shooting. Dominican creams based on cocoa butter help soften the skin and improve the color of the tan. Just keep in mind that cocoa butter, like any other oil, must be used after the beach, and not before, otherwise there will be sunburn.

Get your skin ready for the Dominican Republic by taking a few tanning sessions before your flight. If your skin is red from the sun, avoid wearing red clothes. It is better to choose outfits that are bright and plain. Flying dresses with a long train fit perfectly. I also want to recommend getting a good night’s sleep before shooting. Eliminate alcohol the day before the photo session and drink less liquid in the evening to avoid puffiness. Get your body in shape in the morning.

Take sunscreen, sunglasses, a towel, water, a face scarf or napkins, a comb and cosmetics that you use (preferably waterproof) with you to the shooting.

The main locations for photo shoots in the Dominican Republic

I carry out photography in various locations, which allows me to choose a place in each case, taking into account the individual wishes of each client. Someone wants to get exclusively beach photos, for others it is important that the place of photography is not crowded and quiet, for others the main point is the variety of locations and landscapes. In any case, we will choose what fully corresponds to your ideas and wishes. Below I will talk about the main places for photo shoots.

 

Macao beach

Macao is the most famous beach on the east coast of the Dominican Republic. Every photographer in Punta Cana considers this place to be their workplace. The color of the sand varies from golden to almost white. The beach is public, so there are always people on it. Locals come here for vacation.

Photo shoots in Macao are usually held in two opposite parts of the beach. On the left side of Macao, photographing people on the sand, on leaning palm trees, near the fence and in the palm grove is popular. The surf is very strong here, which creates some difficulties while shooting near the water, especially in recumbent poses. But this fact is very pleasing to surfers!

On the right side of the beach, the sand is almost white. Photographing takes place against the backdrop of rocks, near fishing boats, on the shore. Photos in wedding dresses, as well as bright flying dresses, look incredibly beautiful on the rocks.

 

La costa de amor beach

The private beach of La Costa de Amor is a twenty-minute drive from the main hotels of the Bavaro – Punta Cana resort area in an area called Cabesa de Torro, almost at the junction of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The sand in this zone is white and coarse-grained. For the convenience of photographers, the beach is divided into three parts separated from each other. There is a lot of greenery and palm trees, there is an equipped place for changing clothes. Every photographer in Punta Cana appreciates this beach for its comfortable working conditions.

On La Costa de Amor, you rarely see tourists walking along the beach, as the place is far from all the hotels. The main locations for photoshoots in La Costa de Amor are the bamboo pier, boat, tropical vegetation, palm grove, swings, fences and the coastline.

From the point of view of photo shoots, the town of Fishing Lodge is the most interesting in Cap Cana.
This town is built in the colonial European style. It has its own embankment, where expensive yachts moor, beautiful pools, fountains, bridges, streets, a church and a small beach. Punta Cana photographers often recommend photo shoots in Cap Cana to newlyweds.

You have to pay for the opportunity to take pictures on the territory of the town, so in most cases we are here for about an hour or a little more.

In addition to the Fishing Lodge, Cap Cana has many interesting locations.

 

Saona Island

Saona is an island in the Caribbean Sea in the southeast of the Dominican Republic. To get here from Punta Cana, you need to drive for about an hour by car, and then another hour to sail on a motor boat. The high cost of photo shoots on the island of Saona is largely due to high transport costs.

On the other hand, taking pictures on the island is also a private tour, it justifies the price. There are two main locations for photography here – a beautiful sandbank with starfish, which is called a natural pool here, and the coast of Saona Island. Altos de Chavon / Caca de Campo

Caca de Campo is the most prestigious residential complex in the Dominican Republic. The program in Altos de Chavon is more properly called a photo tour, as this artificially created town is one of the most famous attractions in the Dominican Republic. At the end of the photo session, you will be given free time so that you can walk along the quiet streets, enjoy the atmosphere and drink coffee in one of the local cafes.

Casa de Campo

Casa de Campo is located in the vicinity of the city of La Romana, which is one of the largest settlements in the country. The road from Punta Cana takes just over an hour by car. Entrance to the territory of Casa de Campo is paid (included in the cost of the photo session) and is possible only with an identity document. So don’t forget to take your documents with you!

Altos de Chavon itself is one big location for a photo shoot. All buildings here have artistic value and expressiveness. The city has a beautiful church, a fountain, a large amphitheater and beautiful views of the Chavon River.

After shooting in the City of Artists, the photo session continues in Casa de Campo on the beach of millionaires and in the yacht harbor. This program allows you to get a maximum of various and unusual pictures. Often photographers in the Dominican Republic choose this place for a wedding photo shoot. Altos de Chavon is suitable for photo shoots in any genre.

Of all the photo shoot options in the Dominican Republic, I like the combination of multi-day trips to the most beautiful and remote parts of the country with the process of creating a unique photo collection for you.
